No one thinks they are going to be “the one.” Until they are.
Imagine this - you are 4 days from the delivery of the biggest deal your organization has ever landed and you suddenly have NO ACCESS to the files on your network which include very specific algorithms that this project is dependent upon. Algorithms that you cannot simply recreate in a couple of days. Plus, you have a notice on your screen demanding $10,000 to regain access. Do you feel the anxiety in your chest?
If you’ve been fortunate enough to not have suffered any sort of data breach you are either very lucky or incredibly prepared. If you haven’t spent the time and budget on ensuring your technology and your people are prepared for the worst, when you become “the one,” you are going to wish you had.
Do you have a Response Plan in place in the event you become a victim? It is so beneficial if you have all the right people and services lined up prior to an attack. The last thing you will want to be doing if this happens to you is Googling for help from vendors you’ve never met.
So, who do you need to have lined up and ready to go?
What does all of this mean to you? Business owners can’t rely on just their good luck anymore. The long-term effects of an attack can be catastrophic. Mnemonix provides services to help prevent you from experiencing an attack as well as assisting with the recovery from an attack. Give us a call at 616-588-7740 to schedule some time to talk about your risks and cybersecurity best practices.

So, who do you need to have lined up and ready to go?
- Internal Response Team – including decision makers, subject matter experts, and employees who have the most knowledge of the actual event
- IT Support Team – even if you don’t use an IT service regularly, it would be a good idea to find a team of IT experts to assist you with the recovery from such an incident
- Forensic Experts – to piece together what happened and how
- Call Center Support – these people will help you in the event you need to notify your customers of a breach
- Printing and Mailing Service – depending on the laws that apply to your incident, you may need to quickly put together a mailing piece to notify your customers of a breach. If you do business in states other than your home state, the laws will be different. The method of contact, allotted time to do so, etc. is determined state-by-state
- Legal Expertise – involving an attorney at the initial stages will be helpful in determining whether further investigation or reporting should be done.
